Recap: Balanced Dodgers Lineup Overwhelms Brewers To Clinch Series & Extend Winning Streak To 10 Games

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-1, to remain undefeated on the current homestand and extend their season-best winning streak to 10 games.

Prior to their current stretch, the last time the Dodgers won at least 10 games in a row was July 31-August 13, 2022, when they had a 12-game winning streak.

Clayton Kershaw again pitched just five innings as he held the Brewers to one run on three hits and two walks while finishing with two strikeouts.

Kershaw also continued to experiment with a split-changeup, which he threw five of. That was an increase from the four changeups got over in his first start off the 15-day injured list.

Kershaw’s changeup against the Brewers induced one swing and miss, and one fly out.

He exited with the Dodgers holding a 4-1 lead thanks to a mixture of power hitting and some good fortune. L.A. jumped ahead in the first inning when Amed Rosario grounded out with the bases loaded.

Rosario was in that position partly due to Will Smith reaching on an infield single and and J.D. Martinez because of catcher’s interference on William Contreras.

After Mark Canha’s solo home run tied the game in the second, Miguel Rojas answered back with one of his own in the bottom half of the inning.

The Dodgers again went on to load the bases, with a second infield single by Smith part of the equation and a run scoring because Martinez drew another catcher’s interference.

The Dodgers added onto their lead in the fourth inning behind a sacrifice fly from Smith, and he later hit an RBI single as part of a two-run sixth.

Chris Taylor added a solo home run for good measure in the seventh inning.

Gus Varland makes Dodgers debut

Gus Varland pitched a scoreless eighth inning, ending it by striking out Christian Yelich. He remained in the game and pitched a clean ninth to finish out the win.

The appearance was Varland’s first of his career with the Dodgers.

Varland was selected in the Rule 5 Draft and made his MLB debut for the Brewers earlier this season before being designated for assignment and offered back to the Dodgers.

Varland became the 37th pitcher used by the Dodgers this season, which tied them with the Tampa Bay Rays for most this season. The Dodgers franchise record for most pitchers in one season is 39, set in 2021.
