Preview: Dodgers Look To Sweep Braves For First Time Since 1991

The Los Angeles Dodgers rebounded from back-to-back loss against the Philadelphia Phillies by reeling off three consecutive wins over the Atlanta Braves, to ensure a winning record on their 10-game road trip.

Los Angeles can end it with a punctuation, as a win would give them their first sweep of the Braves since April 1991. It would mark the Dodgers’ first four-game sweep in Atlanta since April 1988.

Starting pitching has been key during the series, as Rich Hill, Clayton Kershaw and Alex Wood have combined to allow just one run on hits while recording 21 strikeouts against five walks in 20.1 innings pitched through the first three games.

Ross Stripling will look to add to that success and validate Dodgers manager Dave Roberts’ decision to start him rather that skip the turn through the rotation.

Stripling has faced questions of fatigue, and allowing three home runs to the Phillies in less than five innings of work didn’t quell that concern. To his credit, Stripling has logged at least six innings in seven of his last eight starts.

The Braves counter with southpaw Sean Newcomb, who’s 9-5 with a 3.41 ERA, 4.24 FIP and 1.28 WHIP in 20 starts this season. The second-year pitcher allowed five runs on seven hits, including two home runs, in 5.1 innings of a June 10 start at Dodger Stadium.
