Preview: Rich Hill, Dodgers Look To Keep Rolling Against Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers got in the win column Monday night in their series opener against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park, and they now look to keep things rolling in Game 2 of the four-game set.

Rich Hill gets the start for Los Angeles coming off a start in which he gave up four hits, two runs and a walking while striking out five against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He left that start with a stiff neck that he suffered sliding into home, but that injury is not expected to affect him against San Diego.

Overall in 10 starts this season, Hill is 2-3 with a 4.56 ERA, 4.83 FIP and 1.37 WHIP while striking out 51 hitters compared to 17 walks in 47.1 innings. He has faced the Padres eight times in his career, going 4-3 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. This is the first time he is facing them in the 2018 season.

The Padres also send a left-hander to the mound in 23-year-old Eric Lauer. In 14 starts this season, he is 4-5 with a 4.84 ERA, 4.73 FIP and 1.76 WHIP. He has struck out 56 hitters compared to 29 walks in 67 innings.

The rookie faced the Dodgers on May 6 and turned in one of the best outings of his young career, tossing six shutout innings, allowing seven hits and a walking with five strikeouts. Cody Bellinger and Matt Kemp managed to have some success off him as they each went 2-for-3 against him in that game.

Justin Turner has heated up for the Dodgers in recent weeks after getting off to a slow start to the season. In his last 25 games, he is hitting .294/.394/.471 with four home runs, nine RBI and 11 walks.

The hot hitter for the Padres at the moment is left fielder Wil Myers. He homered in Monday’s game, giving him five long balls in his last three games.
