The Los Angeles Dodgers went into their series with the Colorado Rockies as winners in five of their last seven games but now need a victory Sunday to avoid being swept in the three-game set at Dodger Stadium.

They’ve been shut down by Rockies starters Tyler Anderson and German Marquez in the back-to-back 3-1 losses. Anderson and Marquez combined to throw 16 innings, with just one run allowed (Marquez’s ledger), while recording 17 strikeouts against one walk (Anderson’s).

The lone run the Dodgers scored in Saturday’s loss was courtesy a Kiké Hernandez home run in the sixth inning. That gave the Dodgers 55 homers in June, which set a franchise record for most in a calendar month.

With the calendar now turned to July, Los Angeles will look for success against Chad Bettis. He’s 5-1 this season but has pitched to a 5.07 ERA, 5.02 FIP and 1.39 WHIP in 16 starts.

Bettis has allowed seven runs in 10 innings (5.91 ERA) in two starts against the Dodgers this season.

He’s opposed by Ross Stripling who is coming off a strong showing against the Chicago Cubs that ultimately didn’t pay off. Stripling is 6-2 with a 1.98 ERA, 2.60 FIP and 1.07 WHIP in 22 games (11 starts) this season.

He’s yet to face the Rockies in 2018 but is 1-1 with a 1.89 ERA in nine games (two starts) against Colorado in his young career.

2B: DJ LeMahieu
