Preview: Dodgers Look To Even Series With Mets

After the New York Mets got the best of them on Monday, the Los Angeles Dodgers look to pull even in the four-game series. The Dodgers’ 5-9 record at Dodger Stadium is their worst 14-game start at home since 2006.

Alex Wood looks to do his part in helping right the ship. On the season, the southpaw is 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA, 4.22 FIP and 1.49 WHIP in six starts. In his last outing Wood managed to collect seven strikeouts, but he also allowed the Tampa Bay Rays to score four runs, three of which came on home runs.

Wood is a lifetime 0-3 with a 4.35 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over seven starts against the Mets. A silver lining for the left-hander is the success he’s had at home this season. Wood sports a 1.29 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in two starts at Dodger Stadium in 2015.

New York trots out Jacob deGrom, who makes his fifth start of the season. The right-hander enters 3-1 with a 1.99 ERA, 2.89 FIP, 1.24 WHIP and 16 strikeouts in 22.2 innings pitched.

deGrom is coming off a loss, as he allowed three runs in just five innings pitched against the San Diego Padres. Pitching deep into games has been an issue for deGrom, as he’s only thrown six innings twice.

deGrom is 0-2 lifetime against the Dodgers, but earned a win in Games 1 and 5 of the 2015 National League Division Series. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts’ lineup is what’s been commonplace against right-handers this season. Chase Utley starts at second base and bats leadoff, and Corey Seager and Carl Crawford also return after not starting in the series opener.

Roberts doesn’t believe the Mets will seek revenge on Utley for his hard slide in Game 2 of the NLDS. Justin Turner has hit safely in his last seven games against the Mets.

In addition, Turner is 5-for-11 with three doubles and an RBI against deGrom, including postseason play.

Dodgers lineup:

2B: Chase Utley
SS: Corey Seager
3B: Justin Turner
1B: Adrian Gonzalez
C: Yasmani Grandal
CF: Joc Pederson
RF: Yasiel Puig
LF: Carl Crawford
P: Alex Wood

Mets lineup:

SS: Asdrubal Cabrera
3B: David Wright
CF: Yoenis Cespedes
2B: Wilmer Flores
LF: Michael Conforto
C: Kevin Plawecki
1B: Eric Campbell
P: Jacob deGrom
