Phillies Hire Former Dodgers Minor League Hitting Coordinator Paco Figueroa

In the wake of their sustained success over recent seasons, the Los Angeles Dodgers have faced turnover throughout various parts of the organization. This offseason, they have already seen two coaches and general manager Farhan Zaidi depart.

Now, former Dodgers Minor League hitting coordinator Paco Figueroa has left the organization. The Phillies announced the hiring of Figueroa as their outfield/baserunning coach, which amounts to a promotion as he’s now part of a Major League staff.

Furthermore, Figueroa reunites with Phillies manager Gabe Kapler, who was director of player development for the Dodgers prior to taking his current position last winter. Figueroa joined the Dodgers organization in December 2015, after three years with the Baltimore Orioles.

Figueroa becomes the second member Kapler has plucked from his former organization. After Kapler was hired, the Phillies added former Dodgers rookie level bench coach Pedro Guerrero as assistant hitting coach.

Since the Dodgers lost the World Series to the Boston Red Sox in five games, then-third base and infield coach Chris Woodward was hired as manager of the Texas Rangers. More recently, Turner Ward accepted a hitting coach position with the Cincinnati Reds, and Zaidi is now the San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations.
