Padres Jump On Kenta Maeda Early, Get To Bullpen And Beat Dodgers In 2nd Game Of Mexico Series

One night after making MLB history with the franchise’s first combined no-hitter, the Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff limited the San Diego Padres to just five hits but it still resulted in a 7-4 loss.

The Padres took a lead two batters into the bottom of the first inning, as Travis Jankowski led off with a triple and Eric Hosmer followed with a two-run home run. After walk and base hit in the fourth inning, Freddy Galvis tied the game with a sacrifice fly.

It was the third and final run Maeda allowed over his five innings. He finished with seven strikeouts against just one walk.

Before Galvis’ sacrifice fly, the Dodgers had taken the lead behind a home run and RBI single from Matt Kemp, and Chris Taylor’s RBI single. Kemp finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

The Dodgers had some good fortune on their side in the sixth inning when Joc Pederson doubled, and Chase Utley and Breyvic Valera walked to load the bases. Kirby Yates hit Taylor with a pitch, which brought in the go-ahead run despite the Padres’ efforts to challenge the call.

That lead was short-lived as Josh Fields surrendered a two-run homer to Raffy Lopez. The two runs were more than the Dodgers bullpen had allowed in 14.2 innings pitched during their three-game winning streak.

While Daniel Hudson stranded the bases loaded in the seventh inning, he allowed two runs in the eighth, which aided Brad Hand in working around Taylor’s leadoff single to convert the save opportunity.
