New Takashi Murakami Dodgers Collection Releasing For Japanese Heritage Night

The Los Angeles Dodgers are hosting Japanese Heritage Night at Dodger Stadium on April 28, and the ever-popular annual celebration is coinciding with a new Takashi Murakami collection being released.

Murakami designed Dodgers merchandise for the Tokyo Series, and also put his touches on a line of products for the Chicago Cubs as well. Murakami’s Tokyo Series collection quickly sold-out at the Complex pop-up store in Los Angeles and also helped MLB set merchandise sales records for a single event.

The newest Dodgers collection by Murakami, and presented by Complex and Fanatics, features three t-shirts — white, black and blue — and a black sweatshirt. Each of the products includes the team’s logo and Murakami’s beloved smiling flowers motif.

Murakami’s latest Dodgers capsule is going to be available at Dodger Stadium stores for Japanese Heritage Night on Monday, and through the Complex.com shop, Fanatics website and the Fanatics App for a limited time.

Murakami’s Tokyo Series collection quickly sold out online and drew hundreds of fans to Complex store located in the Fairfax District.

“It’s been really exciting to see,” Complex head of integrated marketing Timothy Nickloff told DodgerBlue.com from the Complex pop-up store the morning of the release.

“I’ve seen iterations of this come to life over the last year now that we’ve been working on this project. So the development of products, how we’re going to make this thing come to life, it’s incredible to see it finally come together.

“I got here at about 6:30 this morning, and the line was at least six blocks. It was so cool to see all of that. It was a culmination of hard work and all the hard work that Takashi put into this collection, which really celebrates these incredible Japanese athletes and the growth of the game.”

Takashi Murakami first pitch

Along with his Dodgers collaboration being featured for Japanese Heritage Night, Murakami is going to be on hand at Dodger Stadium to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

He did so as well at the Tokyo Dome, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto catching the first pitch from Murakami before the Dodgers’ exhibition game against the Yomiuri Giants.
