Max Muncy: Dodgers Relieved & ‘Hungrier Than Ever’ After World Series Title

The Los Angeles Dodgers bolstered their roster during the offseason with a handful of impactful pieces added onto a core group that’s been in place for several years.

The Dodgers have captured two World Series titles since 2020 and started the Shohei Ohtani era by quickly reaching the top of the baseball world with a storybook season.

A crop of key veterans remain on the Dodgers roster, including Max Muncy, whose been with the team through three trips to the World Series.

From his point of view, winning the 2024 World Series meant a bit more and now has the team feeling like there’s even more work to be done, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today:

”We finally got the team over the hump last year, so it was a little bit of relief on that aspect,” Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy said. “I know we won in 2020, but you want to get that full season one. And now that we did, we want to win more. We have the team to win more. So, it’s almost like we’re hungrier than ever.”

Defeating the New York Yankees in five games was a strong statement as the Dodgers played much cleaner baseball than their American League opponent. They relied on their wealth of postseason performers, limiting the big mistakes.

Being with the Dodgers in the 2018 World Series, Muncy was part of a losing effort. The Dodgers now aim to repeat as champions with a clear focus that their financial strength isn’t the sole drive behind winning ways.

Dodgers preparing for Tokyo Series

Coming off a long year that ended with their World Series run, the Dodgers had a shortened offseason and now face a truncated Spring Training due to beginning the regular season with the Tokyo Series.

The two-game series at the Tokyo Dome begins March 18, which leaves the Dodgers with just 20 Cactus League contests on their Spring Training schedule this year.

The Cubs and Dodgers play their first Spring Training game on Feb. 22 at Camelback Ranch, with an encore the following day at Sloan Park.

Muncy is among several position players who reported early to Spring Training before the first full-squad workout on Saturday.
