Max Muncy: Deep Dodgers Lineup ‘Has Been Forgotten About’

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been firing on all cylinders as they picked up their ninth consecutive win with a 10-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.

Over the nine-game winning streak, the Dodgers have scored 62 runs, an average of just less than seven per game, while allowing just 20, an average of just above two per game.

The top of the Dodgers lineup is loaded with superstars, so it’s expected that they’ll put up runs. But over the current stretch, the bottom of the order has started to come through consistently as well. “We’re a really deep lineup,” Muncy said.

“We’re a really, really good lineup. It kind of seems like our lineup has been forgotten about with a lot of the stuff that’s been happening. It’s been nice to go out there and prove again we’re one of the best lineups in baseball, and there’s no question about that.”

Two hitters who have stood out most are Cody Bellinger and Muncy. They both struggled to find their swing throughout the first half of the season but found success of late. On Sunday, Bellinger had a multi-homer game to clinch a sweep over the San Diego Padres, and on Tuesday, Muncy blasted a home run and doubled.

Although Muncy is still batting .178 this season, the two-time All-Star is hitting .346/.379/.808 over his past seven games and .250/.317/.500 over his the 15. “It feels really good,” Muncy said about his recent hot streak.

“Like I said the other day, it’s a relief for me. All the work I’m putting in is finally paying off a little bit, but I’ve got to keep at it. I can’t think that I’m out of it yet. I’ve still got a lot of work to go.

“As far as [Tuesday], just finally not missing pitches that I’ve been missing all year. I think that’s been the biggest thing.”

The Dodgers look nearly unbeatable right now, and the results speak for themselves with an MLB-best 76 wins, four more than the New York Mets, and a run differential (+233) that’s nearly double what the Mets have posted (+119).

But despite that, Muncy believes the Dodgers have yet to reach their ceiling. “Scary enough, I think there’s still a lot more in there for the whole team,” he said.

“But it’s been looking really good lately. We’ve been looking good all year long, yet at the same time, not all of us have gotten going at once.

“Hopefully, we save that for the playoffs, but right now we’re just taking it one day at a time.”

Muncy enjoying watching Julio Urías

Julio Urías started the series opener against the Twins and pitched seven innings while giving up just one run on five hits. In his last seven starts since the beginning of July, Urías has pitched to a 2.20 ERA over 41 innings.

“He’s great,” Muncy said. “I love watching Julio pitch. He’s one of the ultimate competitors. He goes out there he gets so upset when he makes a mistake, he doesn’t make many of them. But it’s a lot of fun to watch him pitch, he’s really good.”
