Los Angeles Dodgers Re-Sign Blake Treinen

The Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed Blake Treinen to a two-year contract worth $22 million, continuing their busy start to the offseason.

Treinen made the Dodgers a priority this offseason, stating he’d be open to any contract with L.A.

Adding to the bullpen has also been on the Dodgers’ radar after Treinen, Joe Kelly and Daniel Hudson became free agents, and Brusdar Graterol was lost for at least half the season due to surgery. Hudson retired following the 2024 World Series.

With Treinen wanting to stay and the Dodgers needing a bullpen arm, the deal came together rather quickly as the MLB Winter Meetings were just getting underway.

In 50 appearances during the 2024 season, Treinen went 7-3 with one save, a 1.93 ERA, 2.99 FIP and 0.94 WHIP. In 12.1 postseason innings, he went 2-0 with three saves, a 2.19 ERA and 18 strikeouts.

He starred in the postseason, appearing in nine games, allowing three runs in 12.1 innings with a team-leading three saves, including 2.1 scoreless innings in Game 5 of the World Series to secure his second postseason win and clinch the Dodgers their eighth World Championship in franchise history.

In four seasons with Los Angeles, he has gone 17-12 with 2.29 ERA and a 3.9 bWAR in 154 games.

He was an All-Star in 2018, posting a 4.4 WAR with 9-2 record with the A’s. He finished the campaign with a microscopic 0.78 ERA and a career-high 38 saves, finishing sixth in the American League Cy Young voting.

He is entering his 11th Major League season, previously pitching for the Washington Nationals (2014-17), Oakland A’s (2017-19) and Dodgers (2020-24) going a combined 43-34 with a 2.78 ERA in 499 career games. He has 90 saves and 560 strikeouts in his career.

Dodgers bullpen options Blake Treinen re-signed

Treinen joins an already-strong group with Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, Ryan Brasier, Alex Vesia and Anthony Banda, filling six of their eight relief pitcher spots with roster locks.

In addition, the Dodgers have some organizational depth in Michael Grove, Giovanny Gallegos, Edgardo Henriquez, Jack Dreyer and Ben Casparius as potential options to join the mix.

The group could still benefit from one more high-leverage option to help replace Graterol and Hudson, but the Dodgers already have the makings of a solid bullpen overall.
