Tragedy struck the nation on Tuesday afternoon when a teenager killed at least 19 children and two adults in a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The suspect also is alleged to have shot his grandmother before fleeing the scene and crashing his car.

Multiple reports indicate Salvador Ramos, who has been identified as the killer, was dressed in body armor and rushed into the elementary school after crashing the getaway car and engaging with law enforcement officials.

United States President Joe Biden ordered flags to be flown at half-staff each day until sunset on Saturday in observance of the tragedy.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals were among the several professional sports teams to hold a moment of silence for the victims and families prior to their game.

The Nationals asked their followers on social media to join in the moment of silence.

“Our thoughts are with the victims, survivors, and all of those affected by the horrific event at Robb Elementary School in Texas today,” the Dodgers said in a statement. “There is no place in our country for this type of senseless violence.”

MLB added: “Our hearts are broken tonight. Major League Baseball mourns with the families and friends of the victims of today’s senseless tragedy and for all the people of Uvalde, Texas.”

Police are said to have shot Ramos dead.

Robb Elementary School details

It remains unclear if Ramos made his way into multiple classrooms while on the grounds of Robb Elementary School, which consists of students in the second, third and fourth grades. Potential motive also is not known at this time.

The shooting came 10 days after 10 people were killed in a mass shooting at ops Friendly Markets in Buffalo, New York.
