Los Angeles Dodgers Clinch Berth In 2025 MLB Postseason

The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a spot in the 2025 MLB postseason bracket thanks to help from the Philadelphia Phillies defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.

Though, as that game went final, the Dodgers were leading the San Francisco Giants in the bottom of the eighth inning. They entered the day needing one more win or a Diamondbacks loss to punch their ticket for October baseball.

The Dodgers join the Milwaukee Brewers, Phillies and Chicago Cubs as the only teams to secure playoff spots so far this year. The Phillies clinched the NL East behind a comeback win against the Dodgers on Monday.

That victory also gave Philadelphia a head-to-head tiebreaker in the event L.A. were to mount a late charge for the No. 2 seed in the NL playoffs.

Although that appears extremely unlikely, the Dodgers are in the playoffs for the 13th year in a row. It’s the longest active MLB postseason streak and tied with the New York Yankees (1995-2007) for second all-time.

The Atlanta Braves hold the longest postseason streak in MLB history at 14 seasons in a row from 1991-2005.

Prior to this current stretch, the Dodgers had not reached the playoffs more than two years in a row.

Even with the Dodgers having their streak of consecutive NL West titles snapped by the San Francisco Giants in 2021, the franchise is in the midst of an impressive run of sustained success.

In 2016, the Dodgers became the first team in MLB history to win the NL West four years in a row since the Divisional Era began in 1969. That record ultimately was extended to eight consecutive NL West titles. Overall, the Dodgers trailed only the Atlanta Braves (14) and New York Yankees (nine) for the longest streak of division titles since 1969.

Earlier this year the Dodgers tied an NL record with their 15th consecutive winning season.

Dodgers clinch postseason, what’s next?

Still hanging in the balance for the Dodgers is their 12th NL West title in the last 13 seasons. Their magic number to clinch the division is now down to four.

There also is the matter of postseason seeding to be determined, but it’s likely the Dodgers will finish third and start their postseason run in the Wild Card Series.

Lastly, the Dodgers also are on track to extend their streak to 12 consecutive full seasons of winning at least 90 games.

The last time the Dodgers did not reach a minimum of 90 wins in a full schedule was 2012, when they won just 86 games. From 2005-2012, the Dodgers won 90 or more games just once, which came during the 2009 season when they reached 95.

The only year the Dodgers didn’t win 90 games during their current postseason streak came in the shortened 2020 season when they went 43-17. That translated to a franchise-best .716 winning percentage and equated to to a 116-win pace for a full season.
