Justin Turner & Freddie Freeman React To Dodgers Reaching 100 Wins

The Los Angeles Dodgers became the first team in baseball to 100 wins this season, weeks after they were the first club to reach 90 victories.

It’s a 10th time in franchise history the Dodgers have won at least 100 games, and fourth instance in the past six seasons. The 2022 Dodgers also were the first team to secure a spot in the MLB postseason and clinch a division title.

They reached the century mark behind a balanced attack on Saturday night, with Justin Turner and Trayce Thompson tying for the team lead with two RBI each. Turner also finished with a game-high three hits.

Following the win, Turner told Kirsten Watson on SportsNet LA that the Dodgers’ 100 wins thus far are indicative of a talented roster sharing one collective mindset:

“Just a lot of good baseball players showing up every day and working hard. Obviously there’s a lot of talent in that room, but a lot of guys with the right mindset, that go about it the right way. It’s been a fun team to be a part of.”

Freddie Freeman, who contributed with an RBI single in the 7-2 win over the San Francisco Giants, echoed Turner’s sentiment and expressed his appreciation for being on a 100-win team, as seen on SportsNet LA:

“It means a lot to me. I think this is the first time I’ve ever done that, so its pretty cool. It just means we’ve got a really good team. We’ve still got some wins to go.”

During his career with the Atlanta Braves, the most games they won was 97 in 2019, only to lose to the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Division Series.

Meanwhile, Turner has now been part of four different Dodgers teams that have won at least 100 games. This year’s team reached that mark at the fastest pace in franchise history.

Dodgers 100 wins, but what about World Series?

The first 100-win season in Dodgers franchise history was accomplished by the 1899 Brooklyn Superbas going 101-47. It wasn’t achieved again until the 1941 Brooklyn Dodgers finished 100-54 but lost to the New York Yankees in five games in the World Series.

None of the previous nine Dodgers teams to win 100 games have ever won the World Series as well. Of that group, only the 1941, 1953, 1974 and 2017 teams reached the Fall Classic.
