When MLB released the 2018 regular-season schedules for all 30 clubs, it included several highlights for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Among them was a matchup with the Seattle Mariners and their first trip to Safeco Field since 2012.

It also represented the first series between the two clubs since 2015. And with that, brothers Corey and Kyle Seager figured to start opposite one another throughout the weekend.

Unfortunately, Corey underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery in May, and now is also recovering from hip surgery. He’s expected to resume baseball activities in time for Spring Training next year.

Although only one of their sons remains active, Jody and Jeff Seager were on hand for Friday’s series opener. Jody supported both Corey and Kyle by wearing a split Dodgers-Mariners jersey, which Seattle shared on Twitter:

Of course the Seager parents are in the building for Dodgers vs. Mariners.

Kyle went 0-for-4 with one strikeout in the Mariners’ 11-1 loss. And though he and Corey have spent their entire lives on a baseball diamond, it wasn’t until this past spring they shared a field together.

The Mariners got the better of Corey and the Dodgers in Cactus League play, coming away with a 2-0 victory at Peoria Stadium. Kyle went 2-for-2 on the afternoon.

He famously wore a jersey with “Corey’s Brother” as his nickname for 2017 Players’ Weekend, but because he went hitless has ditched that this year in favor of a much more subdued option — “Seager.”
