Joey Gallo: Trade From Yankees ‘Good For Both Sides’

The Los Angeles Dodgers received home runs from Max Muncy, Chris Taylor and Joey Gallo to extend their winning streak to 10 games with an 8-5 victory that completed a season sweep of the Minnesota Twins.

While Muncy provided the Dodgers with their initial lead, and Taylor put them back ahead, it was Gallo’s pinch-hit, opposite-field three-run homer in the seventh inning.

“It felt pretty good,” Gallo said of hitting his first home run with the Dodgers. “The fans have been great since the first day I got here. They’re excited for me to be here, so that makes you feel good. It’s an exciting team to be a part of.”

Gallo has collected four hits in his first 15 at-bats with the Dodgers, including a double in Tuesday’s matchup against the Twins. “It unlocked an extra-base hit for me,” Gallo said when asked if the double helped his swing.

“That was nice. I think it’s just the work that we’ve been doing with the hitting coaches. Since the first day I got here, they said it’s not about the immediate results. It’s about the process and getting back to the player I know that I can be.

“It’s been great, it’s been relaxing. They’re really smart and I’m excited to keep working with them.”

After a disastrous stint with the New York Yankees, Gallo appears to be benefitting from a change of scenery. “I don’t think it was badly needed, but I think it was good for both sides,” he began.

“Just because it was the best opportunity for me, and for them, they got a great All-Star outfielder to play in my place. I don’t have any hard feelings about that. I didn’t do my job.

“But it’s always nice to have a fresh start. It’s like a new relationship, you know? It’s nice. Like I said, good weather, good guys, can’t complain.”

Dodgers undefeated since Gallo trade

Since acquiring Gallo at the MLB trade deadline on Aug. 2, the Dodgers have gone a perfect 8-0. “It’s exciting. Haven’t lost a game yet. It was close for a minute there,” he said of the club’s undefeated record.

“Like I said, I thought we were winning a lot in New York, and we’re winning a lot here. Especially lately. It’s always great to win games.”
