Longtime Los Angeles Dodgers Spanish-language broadcaster Jaime Jarrín announced this week that he plans to retire after the 2022 season in what will mark his 64th year calling games for the organization.

Jarrín has been one of the primary voices of Dodgers baseball since the team relocated to L.A. over six decades ago, but will be scaling back on his work next season by only calling home games.

“You already know the reason why we’re gathered here, but I just wanted to tell you personally that I have decided to cut down my work with the Dodgers to only home games next year and then it will be it for me after 64 years,” Jarrín revealed during a press conference to discuss his decision to retire.

“It has been a great ride. I want to thank the Dodgers for giving me an opportunity to do what I love most through baseball.”

It isn’t uncommon for broadcasters to trim their schedule as they approach the end of their career. Vin Scully gradually began lessening his workload by only calling Dodgers home games and road games within California before ultimately retiring after the 2016 season.

Scully was one of several current and former members of the Dodgers organization Jarrín thanked on Tuesday. “Vin has been a very good friend of mine, he has been my mentor, my teacher, my friend, everything,” Jarrín said.

“I don’t have the words to thank for Vin everything he has done on my behalf.”

Scully congratulates Jarrín on retirement

Shortly after Jarrín announced that the 2022 season will be his last calling games, Scully took to Twitter to congratulate him and wish him well as he prepares to begin a new chapter in his life.
