Freddie Freeman: ‘It’s Special’ To Be Part Of Historic Dodgers Roster

The Los Angeles Dodgers were the talk of Major League Baseball during the offseason for their record spending spree that includes the signings of Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Teoscar Hernández and James Paxton.

The team also acquired Tyler Glasnow in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays and signed him to a contract extension. Meanwhile, L.A. re-signed Jason Heyward and Joe Kelly, and more recently reached agreements to bring back Ryan Brasier and Clayton Kershaw.

All-in-all, the Dodgers have committed nearly $1.2 billion to bolster an already talented roster that features holdovers Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith, among other All-Stars.

“I had a nice seat, a comfortable seat watching it,” Freeman said of the Dodgers’ offseason. “I talked to Andrew (Friedman) a week after our unfortunate ending and he told me Plan A, B and C and what we were going to try and do. Obviously, Plan A was Plan A that succeeded.

“I said, ‘Oh we’re really going to try and get all that?’ I said, ‘OK, that’d be awesome to be a part of.’ When you’re a player, and obviously fans too and everyone that’s involved, you just want to be a part of something where we’re trying to win every single year.

“To really see what our ownership and front office has done, it’s special. It’s special to be a part of. Obviously they did everything they could to give us the best chance to win a World Series, now it’s on us as the players to go out there and play well.

“It’s just awesome to be a part of a group that’s trying to win every single year.”

Freeman admitted that he thought the Dodgers’ plan to add all of those premier players was ambitious, but is excited to see how it plays out on the field. “I was told they wanted all those guys, and when Shohei (Ohtani) happened, I was like, ‘Oh, OK. That’s a lot,’ Freeman said.

“Then all of a sudden (Yoshinobu) Yamamoto comes, and (Tyler) Glasnow, and all the other guys. I was like, ‘Geez.’ You just don’t know how far they’re going to go. I know the plan, but to see it succeed, it’s so exciting for everyone here and in L.A.”

Freddie Freeman reveals new Bad Bunny walk-up song

Now heading into his third season with Dodgers, Freeman is poised to use a new Bad Bunny song as his walk-up music that was chosen by his son Charlie, while also keeping “Baila Conmigo” by Dayvi and Victor Cardenas in the mix as well.

“Charlie has picked ‘Monaco’ by Bad Bunny. When he starts with, ‘Dime.’ We’re going to go with that, but we’re going to keep ‘Baila Conmigo’ as well,” Freeman said during 2024 DodgerFest at Dodger Stadium.

“So that will be No. 1, and then ‘Monaco’ and we’ll just switch back and forth. Yup, Charlie still loves Bad Bunny.”
