Freddie Freeman: Dodgers’ Record On Road Trip ‘Big’ For Team

After avoiding a series sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies, the Los Angeles Dodgers closed out their last homestand on a five-game winning streak. They largely sustained that momentum on a 10-game road trip, which was their longest of the season.

It began with a near sweep of the Phillies, which was followed by also taking two of three from the Washington Nationals. L.A. lost the final game of the series in both instances. The Dodgers responded to their loss against the Nationals by scoring 14 runs in the series opener at Chase Field.

They went on to sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks and finished an impressive 8-2 on the road trip. Similar to a sentiment Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed, Freddie Freeman noted the showing away from Dodger Stadium was impressive, via SportsNet LA:

“It’s big. If you can win every series on a three-city trip, that’s huge. And for us to sweep in the last one, a four-game series, to go 8-2 with a couple East Coasters in there, that’s big. West to East is hard, especially with those day games. We played really good baseball. I wouldn’t say the last two games were the best baseball we’ve played, but when you’ve got a pitching staff like we do, we were able to battle through and get the wins.”

The Dodgers held a combined 59-23 scoring advantage over the Phillies, Nationals and Diamondbacks. They enter play Monday an MLB-best +119 in run differential and became the first team in the National League to reach 30 wins this season.

Freeman was very much a part of the Dodgers’ successful road trip by going 11-for-42 with four doubles, one home run and 10 RBI.

Freeman a lock in Dodgers lineup

Freeman and Trea Turner are the only players who have been in the Dodgers lineup for every game this season. While it’s a regular occurrence for both in a given season, Turner has played through minor calf trouble.

Roberts downplayed concern over potentially pushing either player too heavily and said daily conversations are had to ensure fatigue is not an issue.
