The Los Angeles Dodgers saw several changes to the coaching staffs of their Minor League affiliates, which included not retaining Shawn Wooten. He’s since been hired onto the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Minor League development staff as an assistant hitting coordinator.

Wooten spent the past two seasons as the Oklahoma City hitting coach. Prior to that he was hitting coach with Double-A Tulsa from 2014-15, and Wooten previously spent four seasons coaching in the San Diego Padres farm system, including three as manager.

Wooten was noted for his work with noted former prospects Cody Bellinger, Joc Pederson and Corey Seager, as well as O’Koyea Dickson and Rob Segedin in recent years. Pederson credited Wooten for aiding a turnaround last season while the young center fielder was on a rehab assignment.

The Dodgers filled the void left by Wooten by naming Adam Melhuse as hitting coach for OKC. Coincidentally, he spent spent the past two seasons as manager of the Low-A Burlington Bees (Angels affiliate).

In now coaching for the Angels, Wooten returns to the organization he spent four of six Major League seasons with. During that time, Wooten batted .281/.322/.413 with 25 doubles, 18 home runs and 84 RBI in 233 games over parts of four seasons with Anaheim.
