Former Dodgers Outfielder Andre Ethier Helps Give Back To Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Dodgers as a whole regularly give back to the community and also have several players — both past and present — do so on an individual basis.

Retired outfielder Andre Ethier recently did his part by helping nonprofit organization No Us Without You L.A. distribute food to those who have been negatively impacted by the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The charity was founded last year to provide assistance to undocumented workers — especially those in the restaurant industry — who were prone to financial and food insecurity.

Ethier, who became enamored with L.A.’s food selections during his playing days with the Dodgers, was motivated to help lift such an important part of the community back on their feet, via Jack Harris of the L.A. Times:

“People in this community, people in this city, they rise and fall with how the team goes,” Ethier said, his orange flannel matching an orange “LA” emblemed Dodgers cap. “But the city rises and falls with the people that do this work too. That’s the truth.”

Ethier began getting involved with No Us Without You L.A. last month after being referred to Othón Nolasco and Damian Diaz, the co-founders of the nonprofit organization.

Ethier’s collaboration with the charity is only just starting as he plans to be featured in their videos and will raffle off dugout club seats to future Dodgers games to those who donate.

Dodgers assisted Magic Johnson with community holiday event

Earlier this month, Dodgers part-owner Magic Johnson hosted a holiday event at Crete Academy to provide for underserved students.

The L.A. Lakers legend put together a day of carnival games, gifts and other entertainment at the local school, with fake snow and an opportunity to take a picture with Santa also among the activities.

Johnson has a long history of giving back to those in need, and last month was at the forefront of an event to distribute food, books, toys and personal care items to 800 families.
