Dodgers Vs. Giants Game Preview: Miguel Vargas Makes MLB Debut

The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled away late for a sixth consecutive win over the San Francisco Giants and now can take the series with another victory on Wednesday.

They aim to do so with Miguel Vargas in the lineup for his MLB debut. Vargas was called up Tuesday night to take the place of Jake Lamb, who was traded to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for cash considerations or a player to be named later.

Meanwhile, Julio Urías makes his 21st start of the season and looks to build on a solid outing against the Colorado Rockies. He allowed just two runs on four hits and collected four strikeouts over seven innings of work.

Since the start of June, Urías has gone 7-1 with a 2.54 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in 56.2 innings. It was around that time the 25-year-old made some mechanical adjustments, and he believes they are paying off.

“I think I found a little something the last couple bullpens and then the last two starts,” Urías recently said. “I felt like I’ve been able to make those adjustments and every fifth day come out and pitch like I have.”

Urías enters at an overall 10-6 with a 2.71 ERA, 3.78 FIP and 0.98 WHIP in 109.2 innings pitched this season. The left-hander has fared well against the Giants in his career, posting a 4-4 record with a 2.30 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over 94 innings (23 games, 17 starts).

In three starts against San Francisco Giants this year, Urías has given up only two runs and 11 baserunners across 18 innings pitched — good for a minuscule 1.00 ERA and 0.61 WHIP.

The Giants counter with Alex Cobb, who is coming off his best start of the season against the Chicago Cubs. He yielded only one run on three hits and collected 11 strikeouts in six innings of work.

The right-hander, however, took a hard-luck loss and fell to 3-5 on the season. He has posted a 4.06 ERA, 2.91 FIP and 1.28 WHIP with 85 strikeouts against 23 walks in 82 innings pitched (16 starts).

Cobb is making just his second career start against the Dodgers. In his only other outing on July 24, he allowed four runs and eight hits across 5.2 innings pitched.
