Hours removed from an impressive trade deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers also activated Corey Seager off the 60-day injured list as they begin a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Seager is back in the lineup for the first time since May 15, when he suffered a fractured fifth metacarpal in his right hand as a result of being hit by a pitch. Seager is batting cleanup in the Dodgers’ lineup, which might be indicative of what’s ahead once Trea Turner is in the fold.

Limited to just 37 games because of the hand injury, Seager has hit .265/.361/.422 with seven doubles, four home runs, 22 RBI and a 118 wRC+ this season.

Tony Gonsolin makes his ninth start of the year and is on the mound for his 10th game overall. The right-hander looks to build on his strong outing against the Colorado Rockies.

He got through 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and tying a season high with seven strikeouts.

Gonsolin appears to be settling in and finding his rhythm after missing the first two months of the season because of a shoulder injury. To this point in July, he’s logged a 2.14 ERA over five outings.

Friday marks Gonsolin’s third appearance against the Diamondbacks this season and his second at Chase Field. In those two performances he allowed a total of two earned runs over a combined 7.2 innings.

Zac Gallen toes the rubber for Arizona in what will be his 12th start of the year. Entering the series opener, Gallen owns a 1-5 record and a 4.80 ERA.

Friday serves as Gallen’s first start against the Dodgers this season, but he’s no stranger to facing them. He pitched marvelously at Dodger Stadium on September 2, 2020, shutting the Dodgers out and allowing only one earned run through seven innings.

Dodgers lineup

2B: Chris Taylor
1B: Max Muncy
3B: Justin Turner
SS: Corey Seager
C: Will Smith
LF: AJ Pollock
CF: Cody Bellinger
