Dodgers Vs. Cubs Game Preview: Chance To Sweep Doubleheader

After winning Game 1, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs now meet in the nightcap of a split doubleheader at Wrigley Field.

Clayton Kershaw pitched seven scoreless innings to help take pressure off a Dodgers bullpen that is in good standing for the second game of the twin bill. Among the options available is Robbie Erlin, who was called up as the 27th player permitted for a doubleheader.

Tyler Anderson makes his third start and fifth overall appearance of the season. He is coming off a solid outing against the Detroit Tigers in which he allowed one run and five hits over five innings pitched.

Despite limiting the Tigers to just the one run, Anderson was not pleased with the quality of his changeup. “I’m throwing with a new grip, and I just felt like I didn’t throw it for as quality of strikes as often as I wanted to,” Anderson said.

“I usually can throw it in the count whenever and I’d like to throw it in the zone. I just was pushing them off a little bit; too many out of the zone.”

Anderson is 2-0 with a 2.55 ERA, 3.15 FIP and 0.96 WHIP in 17.2 innings pitched this season. In seven career starts against the Cubs, he owns a 3-3 record, 3.95 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 43.1 innings.

Chicago counters with Daniel Norris, who presumably is serving as the opener. All five of his previous appearances this season have come out of the bullpen, and he enters with an 0-1 record, 6.00 ERA, 5.26 FIP and 1.00 WHIP in six innings pitched.

Norris last took the mound on April 29 against the Milwaukee Brewers, when he allowed one run and collected two strikeouts in 0.2 innings. The left-hander has faced the Dodgers only once in his career, which came last season when he yielded three runs over one inning of work.

Cody Bellinger, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Chris Taylor, Justin Turner and Trea Turner started the afternoon matchup and are in the Dodgers lineup for the second game as well. Betts enters with a seven-game hitting streak, and Freeman is coming off a three-double performance.
