With ace Clayton Kershaw turning in another dominant performance, the Los Angeles Dodgers won the series finale to earn a split with the New York Mets. Kershaw’s brilliant outing on the mound set the tone, while the offense provided early run support.

After Chase Utley and Corey Seager jumped on first pitches from Bartolo Colon to open the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles, Justin Turner’s RBI base hit to left field gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

Following an Adrian Gonzalez line out, Yasmani Grandal stepped to the plate with one away and runners on first and second base.

Grandal got ahead in the count 2-0, and jumped on a Colon fastball to launch a no-doubter to right-center field:

The home run was Grandal’s third this season, and the 19th since joining Dodgers. “I liked the matchup,” manager Dave Roberts said of starting his switch-hitting catcher on Thursday. “I obviously can’t predict a three-run homer, but I still felt with three or four at-bats against Colon that Yasi had a chance to do some damage.”

Granal went 3-for-13 with two home runs and four RBIs over the four-game series with the Mets. He enters play on Friday batting .250/.350/.471 with three home runs and 12 RBIs on the season.
