Dodgers Video: Yasiel Puig Scores Go-Ahead Run, Cody Bellinger Hits 34th Home Run

The Los Angeles Dodgers were first to strike Saturday night but ultimately found themselves in a hole against the San Diego Padres as the game wore on. The Dodgers had their share of chances against Jhoulys Chacin, who issued four walks but only allowed one run in five innings.

He exited with a 3-1 lead that the Padres bullpen was unable to protect. Jose Torres issued a leadoff walk and allowed a double to Chase Utley. He gave way to Craig Stammen who didn’t fare much better as he walked Yasiel Puig to load the bases with nobody out.

Stammen nearly escaped the jam, retiring pinch-hitter Austin Barnes and striking out Chris Taylor. But on a full count, Corey Seager turned on an elevated fastball for a two-out, game-tying single.

Anticipating a throw home, Seager made a wide turn and headed for second base. Hunter Renfroe threw the ball in, which forced Seager to retreat to first base.

As the ball was thrown to Wil Myers, Puig sensed an opportunity and seized it. His break for home plate forced Myers to rush a throw to Austin Hedges. It was off target, and Puig snuck his left hand under the tag attempt to score the go-ahead run.

Cody Bellinger provided insurance with a solo home run in the seventh inning. The opposite-field blast was Bellinger’s 34th home run this season, leaving him one shy of matching Mike Piazza’s Dodgers rookie record.

Taylor added a solo home run in the eighth inning, which was the final scoring for either team in the Dodgers’ 6-3 comeback win.
