Dodgers Video: Yasiel Puig Robs Domingo Santa Of Home Run

The Los Angeles Dodgers managed just five hits in a 3-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday night, marking the second time they were shut out in their last four games. Highlights were few and far between for the Dodgers, with Yasiel Puig twice providing excitement.

With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Puig’s ground ball to third base skipped off Travis Shaw’s glove and rolled into foul territory. Puig arrived at second base just as Shaw’s throw did, but it pulled Neil Walker wide of the bag and left him without a play.

He was also forced to drop to a knee to make the catch. As Walker remained down, Puig noticed an opening at third base. A moment of hesitation was followed by a dash and foot race, which he won.

The hustle double and Little League triple were symbolic of the “Wild Horse” nickname bestowed on Puig by Vin Scully and one he’s wearing for Players Weekend.

Then in the sixth inning, the dynamic 26-year-old added to his case for a Gold Glove Award by robbing Domingo Santana of a home run. Puig gave chase to a fly ball hit down the right-field line and reached into the stands for a catch right as he collided with the short wall.

The collision understandably knocked the air out of Puig, who sat on the ground for a moment while showing he’d made the catch. He was removed from the game in the top of the eighth, though Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that was simply due to a double-switch, not injury.

Puig is not expected to be in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale with the Brewers in what was already a scheduled day off. On the season, he’s batting .260/.347/.478 with 17 doubles, one triple, 59 RBI and a career-high 23 home runs.
