Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Willie Calhoun is in his first season with Triple-A Oklahoma City and at just 22 years old is producing at a prolific rate. He only managed one hit Sunday, but it came late and provided Oklahoma City with insurance.

After Alex Verdugo led off the ninth with a single and Todd Cunningham drew a walk, Calhoun delivered a three-run home run. OKC went on to beat the Iowa Cubs, 9-3, and take the three-game road series.

The home run was Calhoun’s second in as many games and 22nd this season, which leads the team. He’s batting .300/.351/.584 with 24 doubles, five triples and 65 RBI over 93 games. Calhoun is second in the Pacific Coast League in home runs and fourth in slugging percentage.

A natural second baseman, Calhoun has played 11 games (10 starts) in left field for Oklahoma City. It’s marked the first time he’s played a position other than second base in his professional career.

In the midst of a strong season and among the Dodgers’ top prospects, the left-handed hitting slugger has been the subject of recent trade rumors. Amid the Dodgers’ reported interest in Yu Darvish, the Texas Rangers reportedly have their eyes on potentially acquiring two of Yadier Alvarez, Walker Buehler, Calhoun and Verdugo.
