From the first time Will Smith joined the Los Angeles Dodgers for his MLB debut, he was connected to the famed actor with the same namesake. The connection was further prevalent with Smith using the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” theme for his walk-up song.

Though, that was later learned to have been the work of former teammate Russell Martin, who collaborated with DJ Severe to arrange for that. That’s not to say Smith shied away from sharing a name with the Hollywood actor.

His Instagram account profile name once incorporated the “Fresh Prince” moniker. Now the Dodgers catcher has been drawn into a campaign with Ryan Reynolds.

He mistakingly received a gift from Reynolds, along with a note that alluded to one day working together on a movie.

After nearly a year of constant comparisons, the Dodgers’ Will Smith met the megastar to brighten the holidays for 8-year-old Aaron Moreno, who buys plants and sells them for a profit to help his parents pay the bills.

After playing a game of “Which Will Smith?” the Smiths surprised Moreno with a $10,000 donation, a PlayStation 5, Dodgers tickets and an invitation to batting practice.

Will Smith vs. Will Smith

In addition to sharing a name with the actor, Will Smith also is the name of Atlanta Braves relief pitcher. When they faced the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, the two faced one another in the first such postseason matchup between players with the same name.

The at-bat went in favor of the Dodgers’ Smith as he clubbed a clutch home run.
