Dodgers Video: Vin Scully Shares Reassuring Message During Zoom Party

The Los Angeles Dodgers organized a Zoom party Monday afternoon, providing fans with a close look at front office members, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, select players and broadcasters. The virtual chat was crashed by Vin Scully, who continues to recover after falling from his home.

Scully was hospitalized but has maintained a lighthearted view of the entire incident. Upon releasing a statement through the team to address the fall, Scully referred to it as a “head-first slide,” which he said he was never fond of.

Upon being released from the hospital so he could recover from home, Scully said he and his wife were eagerly awaiting the Dodgers returning to the field.

Scully’s latest message to fans evoked memories of his 67 seasons spent in the broadcast booth. “Hi everybody and a very pleasant good evening to you, wherever you may be,” he began. “I know where I am now — after five days in the hospital, and I’m so grateful to be home.”

Scully went on to thank fans for their positive messages and wishes, again referred to his spill as a head-first accident, and joked he was “called out.”

“So, with that said, thanks again,” Scully continued. “I’m feeling better. Thanks for your good wishes, and remember sooner or later, you’re going to hear it: It will be ‘Time for Dodger Baseball.’”

The Hall of Famer is now a fourth year into retirement after an illustrious career. Scully has regularly said he’s doing just fine in retirement, though recently conceded the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has presented challenges for the family.

Notably, Scully is disappointed — albeit fully understanding — with needing to maintain physical distance. The longtime voice of the Dodgers has nonetheless implored fans to adhere to safer at home orders and waxed poetic about baseball being capable of helping the country heal once the sport is able to return.
