Hall of Fame Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully was celebrated by the Los Angeles Lakers during their home opener of the 2022-23 NBA season on Thursday night.

The Lakers were hosting the L.A. Clippers at Crypto.com Arena when a tribute video was played during the first timeout. It featured several of Scully’s calls for not only Dodgers games, but also memorable moments in MLB history and the Super Bowl.

Last month, the USC Trojans paid tribute to Scully before their first football game under new head coach Lincoln Riley.

Scully, who passed away in August, spent 67 years in the Dodgers broadcast booth. His career began in Brooklyn and included calling games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum when the team moved to the West Coast in 1958. The Dodgers didn’t begin playing at Dodger Stadium until April 10, 1962.

Scully called his final Dodgers game on Oct. 2, 2016, a matchup against his childhood San Francisco Giants team. Scully’s admiration for the Giants began during their time in New York.

Scully’s 67 years in the booth made him the longest-tenured broadcaster with a single team in professional sports history.

Among other accolades he earned getting inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982, the same year as receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, being named National Sportscaster of the Year four times, an Emmy Award for lifetime achievement, and Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Justin Turner, Dodgers celebrate Vin Scully

After the longtime voice of the franchise passed away, the Dodgers wore a commemorative jersey patch for the remainder of the season and held a pregame ceremony at Dodger Stadium.

Justin Turner also used the final day of the regular season to further pay his respects by wearing custom Adidas cleats with Scully’s face, a microphone and more odes to the beloved Dodgers broadcaster painted on.
