Los Angeles Dodgers Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully is in his 67th and final season in the booth, with time quickly winding down. While fans hold out hope Scully will return in 2017, the 88-year-old remains at peace and confident in his decision.

That’s not to say Scully won’t miss plenty the game of baseball has to offer. “I’ll miss it a great deal,” Scully told ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap during the E:60 interview. “Ever since I was a little boy the roar of the crowd intrigued me. I used to crawl under a radio and listen to a football game.

A kid in the Bronx, listening at 8-years-old to a Texas-Oklahoma football game, it didn’t mean very much. But the crowd did. When that noise came out of the speaker I was thrilled.”

Scully told of a similar anecdote during a dedication ceremony for the official renaming of Elysian Park Avenue to Vin Scull avenue.

Scully also recounted growing up a New York Giants and regularly attending games at the Polo Grounds, valuable learning experience he gained under Red Barber, and explained some of the reasoning behind his decision to retire after this season.
