Dodgers Video: 5 Runs Score On Adam Ottavino’s 4 Wild Pitches

Riding a nine-game winning streak, the Los Angeles Dodgers were poised to complete a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon. Los Angeles aligned their rotation so that Alex Wood, Clayton Kershaw and Brandon McCarthy would take the mound during the weekend set.

Wood and Kershaw each turned in a strong start, and there wasn’t any reason to expect different from McCarthy. However, he struggled to find the strike zone in the second, threw several wild pitches, and allowed the Rockies to take a 3-0 lead.

They led 5-0 heading to the bottom of the third. The Dodgers clawed back to within one run that inning thanks to two-run homers by Kiké Hernandez and Cody Bellinger.

The Dodgers trailed 6-4 when the bottom of the seventh inning began. Rockies reliever Jake McGee allowed a one-out single to Justin Turner and a two-out double to Logan Forsythe. McGee was replaced by Adam Ottavino.

Rather than get the Rockies out of the jam, Ottavino made matters worse, and only had himself to blame. Austin Barnes walked to load the base. A wild pitch allowed Justin Turner to score and the two other baserunners to advance.

Ottavino uncorked a second wild pitch in the inning, which Tony Wolters had trouble locating. Forsythe scored easily and so did Barnes from second base.

Ottavino remained in the game in the eighth inning and threw two more wild pitches, with each allowing one run to score. The Dodgers went on for a wild come-from-behind 12-6 victory to complete a sweep of the Rockies and extend their winning streak to 10 games.
