The Los Angeles Dodgers once again came up short against the Arizona Diamondbacks, falling 9-1 at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night. Arizona has now rattled off 11 consecutive victories in head-to-head meetings dating back to last season.

Although the end result was a familiar one for the two teams, there was a unique situation in the top of the fourth inning. With Arizona leading 3-1, Deven Marrero hit what appeared to be a three-run home run off Rich Hill.

However, Alex Avila, who was on first base, went back as it he was going to tag on a deep fly ball. As a result, Marrero briefly passed him on the basepaths. Cody Bellinger alerted the Dodgers dugout of the of it, and manager Dave Roberts successfully challenged the home run call.

The end result was Marrero being awarded a two-run single but he was also ruled out. Of course, come the ninth inning it made no difference.

And even with taking Marrero’s home run off the board, the Diamondbacks still managed to slug four in the game. Paul Godlschmidt was first to go deep, doing so in the third inning, A.J. Pollock hit a pair of solo home runs, and Avila atoned for his mistake with a solo homer in the ninth.
