When Zack Greinke signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in December 2012 he applauded the front office for their selection of Corey Seager with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft.

While the two were part of the same organization over the past three seasons, it wasn’t until September 2015 when Greinke and Seager became teammates. Their time together was short-lived, as Greinke opted out of his deal and signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks during the offseason.

On Monday, Greinke got his first look at the shortstop he too scouted, plus his other former teammates. The Dodgers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning behind a booming Justin Turner RBI double that hit off the high center field fence at Chase Field.

The Diamondbacks quickly erased their deficit on a Paul Goldschmidt solo home run in the bottom of the first. Arizona then took a 2-1 lead in the third inning on Jake Lamb’s opposite-field homer.

Their lead held until the fifth inning when Seager belted a home run over the swimming pool area in right-center field, good for the longest home run in his young career:

Seager’s home run was his 15th this season, which leads the Dodgers. He also leads the club in total hits (71), batting average (.284) and RBIs (36), and is second in slugging percentage (.524) and on-base plus slugging (.864).
