The Los Angeles Dodgers once again are dealing with a rash of injuries this season, with Tommy Edman, Teoscar Hernández, Michael Kopech, Tyler Glasnow, Brusdar Graterol, Evan Phillips, Roki Sasaki and Blake Snell among their expected regulars currently not available.
Kopech is currently on a rehab assignment, but the likes of Phillips and Sasaki are recent additions to the 15-day injured list. In the case of Sasaki, the Dodgers don’t have a timeline for his return from right shoulder impingement.
Meanwhile, Snell has been out since early April and Edman is dealing with lingering discomfort in his right ankle that caused a delay from the initial expectation for a return.
Dodgers injuries
Blake Snell
Snell was scheduled to begin a throwing program during the Dodgers’ road trip but was under the weather at one point during that stretch. It pushed back the date for Snell to start playing catch, but he still didn’t do so on Sunday.
The Dodgers instead waited for Snell to have his visit with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Tuesday. That came with positive news as the left-hander was cleared to start playing catch.
Snell threw from 60 feet on flat ground on Wednesday afternoon.
Tommy Edman
Edman went through various rehab drills when the Dodgers began their homestand and took at-bats against Emmet Sheehan on Wednesday.
Edman is having trouble when trying to run and now isn’t expected to come off the injured list until next week. The initial projection was for Edman to return during the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, which was then pushed back to the current homestand.
But now Edman appears likely to miss at least three more games. Whenever Edman does return, it will come without first completing a rehab assignment.
Roberts added Edman’s movement laterally has improved but there is still some trouble when attempting to run at full speed in the outfield.
Teoscar Hernández
Hernández also took at-bats against Sheehan but isn’t expected to be activated until next week as well. Roberts had expressed some hope the Dodgers would get Hernández back this weekend.
Roberts added Hernández is evaluating whether or not he’ll need a rehab assignment prior to getting activated.
