Tyler Glasnow is among the many Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers currently on their injured list and attempting to work his way back to the mound.
Glasnow has not appeared in a game since April 27, but is making some good headway toward a return. Among the starters with a chance to return this season, Glasnow is joined on the IL by the likes of Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki and Emmet Sheehan.
Of that group, Glasnow is considered the furthest along and likely to be the first one to make his way back into the Dodgers’ rotation.
The 31-year-old began his throwing program about two weeks ago and met with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on May 12. The next step for the Glasnow was a bullpen session, which he completed on Friday at Dodger Stadium. It was his first bullpen since being placed on the April.
The throwing session was not too extensive, but the important factors were Glasnow came out of it feeling healthy and there was some life behind his pitches, according to Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:
Glasnow threw fewer than 20 pitches in his first bullpen session but Roberts said the reports were positive.
“He said he felt great afterwards,” Roberts said. “Don’t know what that means with velocity. But I do know he was getting after it pretty good.”
While this is a good step in the right direction for Glasnow, expect the Dodgers to continue to take their time with his rehab process. Like with all of their injured pitchers, the Dodgers will not rush him back if they feel that there is the potential for a setback.
In addition to starting pitchers, the Dodgers are also currently without Brusdar Graterol, Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, Blake Treinen, Kirby Yates and others. Most are still a while away from returning, but there are some encouraging updates on a few of them.
Tyler Glasnow ahead of Blake Snell in rehab
While Glasnow and Snell are playing catch at this point, they will have to check off multiple boxes before they are in a position to pitch in the Majors again.
That includes throwing multiple bullpen sessions, facing batters and completing rehab assignments. Glasnow’s bullpen session on Friday keeps him ahead of Snell.
