Los Angeles Dodgers uniformed personnel voted Justin Turner as the winner of the 14th Roy Campanella Award, which is presented annually to the franchise’s player who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership of the late Hall of Fame catcher.
Turner will be presented the award by Campanella’s daughter, Joni Campanella Roan, and his grandson, Malcom Campanella, during a pregame ceremony at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night. Turner previously won the award in 2017.
He joins Clayton Kershaw (2013-14) and Chase Utley (2016, 2018) as Dodgers who twice have received the honor.
Rafael Furcal received the inaugural Roy Campanella Award in 2006 and in addition to Kershaw, Utley and Turner, it has since been given to Russell Martin (2007), James Loney (2008), Juan Pierre (2009), Jamey Carroll (2010), Matt Kemp (2011), A.J. Ellis (2012) and Zack Greinke (2015).

Turner has become an integral member of the Dodgers roster, clubhouse and community since signing a Minor League contract in February 2014. In December 2016 he re-signed with the club on a four-year, $64 million deal.
In another sign of his generosity, Turner agreed to donate a percentage of his new contract to the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. Along with making appearances on behalf of the LADF, Turner regularly gives back to the community through his Justin Turner Foundation.
It was founded in 2016 by Turner and his wife Kourtney, with a mission is to support homeless veterans, children (and their families) battling life-altering illnesses and diseases, as well as various youth baseball organizations.
The L.A. Dream Center, where the Turners opened a women veterans home last year — the first of its kind in the area — is among the JTF’s beneficiaries. The Turners are also regular participants in the AM 570 L.A. Sports Radiothon and host the annual Justin Turner Foundation Golf Classic.
This past May, Justin, Kourtney and the Justin Turner Foundation were added to the Spotlight Wall inside Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. They were recognized for their philanthropic work with the local hospital, which includes countless visits and financial contributions to the Helping Hands Fund.
Also this year, Justin and Kourtney served as Honorary Hosts of the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Walk And Play L.A. 2019.
Turner’s charitable efforts earned him the Dodgers’ nomination for the Roberto Clemente Award in 2017 and 2018.
