Dodgers Trade Zac Rosscup To St. Louis Cardinals

The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Zac Rosscup to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for cash considerations, continuing with their activity on a smaller scale ahead of the 1 p.m. PT deadline on Wednesday.

Rosscup joins his fourth team this season. The veteran left-hander began the year with the Seattle Mariners but was released in May. The Toronto Blue Jays then claimed Rosscup off waivers, only to designate him for assignment shortly after.

That paved the way to Rosscup returning to the Dodgers by signing a Minor League contract. He first joined the team last July from the Colorado Rockies via a waiver claim. Rosscup memorably tossed an immaculate inning against the same Mariners club he’d eventually sign with.

Rosscup appeared in 17 games for the Dodgers last season but was released in November. That led to signing with the Mariners on a Major League contract.

The 31-year-old has appeared in a combined 21 games for the Mariners (19), Blue Jays (two) and Dodgers (seven), going 2-0 with a 5.00 ERA and 2.28 WHIP

The Dodgers designated Rosscup for assignment on July 15 in a corresponding move to recalling Casey Sadler from Triple-A Oklahoma City. He initially cleared waivers and was sent outright to OKC.

This now marks the sixth trade the Dodgers have completed in the month of July, second in as many days and third in the past four days. On Sunday they acquired Kristopher Negrón from the Seattle Mariners as a precursor to placing Kiké Hernandez on the 10-day injured list.

On July 3, the Dodgers traded Nathan Witt to the Tampa Bay Rays for Sadler, then sent Adam McCrery and Josh Thole to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for cash considerations on July 12, five days later dealt Justin Grimm to the Cincinnati Reds, and last week acquired Tyler White from the Houston Astros.
