Dodgers Spring Training: Tyler Glasnow Confident He Will Be Built Up For Seoul Series

The Seoul Series is quickly approaching, which will see the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres play MLB’s first regular-season games in South Korea from March 20-21.

Manager Dave Roberts has softly committed to Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow starting in some order during the two-game series at Gocheok Sky Dome, but they will likely be limited to a certain inning and/or pitch threshold due to the shortened spring.

Although there is less time to build up, Glasnow is confident he’ll be ready to go.

“Yeah. I’m not sure what the pitch count is or anything, but I can be ready, for sure,” Glasnow answered when asked if he will have time to build up for the early schedule. “Throwing early in spring and just getting built up, I think there will be enough time.”

Glasnow is coming off a solid year with the Tampa Bay Rays that saw him go 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA, 2.91 FIP, 1.08 WHIP and 12.2 strikeouts per nine in 120 innings pitched over 21 starts.

The right-hander missed nearly the first two months of the season due to a left oblique strain, but managed to stay healthy the rest of the way.

“I think with Tyler, considering he came from the Rays, there’s a lot of things we think a lot alike and see things pretty similarly,” Roberts began.

“And also the fact that he’s been in the big leagues for quite some time. So there’s not as much opportunity as we see in some other players, so I think for us, it’s just kind of building off what he did last year.

“That was the most innings he’s ever thrown. So just continuing to have the dialogue, keep him healthy and know that if he’s healthy, he’s going to perform.”

Glasnow allowed one run on four hits over 1.2 innings of work in his 2024 Cactus League debut and is scheduled to make his second start of Spring Training on Friday against the Cleveland Guardians.

“I think the direction of his pitches, because he’s typically a North-South guy. So just making sure he’s throwing the baseball in that same lane,” Roberts answered when asked what Glasnow is working on to prepare for the regular season.

“I know the curveball is a deadly pitch that he has, so being able to strike it but also get swing and miss, and chase with it, is something that he’s mindful of. Assuming this goes well, he’ll make another start and do three innings that time.”

After setting a career-high in innings pitched last season, Glasnow is focused on going deeper into games this year. “I think the next step is the volume,” Roberts said.

“I think he’s also being mindful of being a little bit better at managing the running game. Outside of that, for me, he’s a No. 1 for any team in baseball.”
