The second round of Los Angeles Dodgers Spring Training roster cuts involved Diego Cartaya, Michael Busch, Jorbit Vivas and Eddys Leonard getting optioned.

Jonny DeLuca, Andy Pages, Matt Andriese, Bobby Miller and Jahmai Jones were assigned to Minor League camp as well. Each of the aforementioned players remain eligible to appear in Cactus League games for the Dodgers despite no longer being part of big league camp.

Andriese has appeared in three games this spring, including Monday’s win against the Cleveland Guardians. The right-hander has only allowed one unearned run over five innings.

Busch was in the Dodgers lineup for their matchup against the Guardians, and he turned in a 3-for-3 effort to add onto what’s been an impressive showing. Overall this spring, Busch is batting .261/.393/.435 with one double, one home run and three RBI in 11 games.

Cartaya is receiving more opportunities with Austin Barnes and Will Smith participating in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, but that’s not yet amounted to making a start for the Dodgers. He nonetheless has appeared in six consecutive games.

DeLuca has been a standout with the Dodgers so far this spring and is third on the team with six RBI in Cactus League games. DeLuca is hitting .350/.500/.550 with one double, one home run and three walks.

Jones contributed an RBI double in Monday’s win at Camelback Ranch but otherwise has struggled at the plate. Jones previously played in Spring Training games for the Los Angeles Angels and Baltimore Orioles in his career.

Leonard, who is entering a season since being put on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, has hit .409/.435/.591 with one double, one home run and five RBI through 13 Cactus League games thus far.

Miller has been held back through a slow buildup in camp and won’t appear in a Cactus League game this spring. Miller set a career high with 112.1 innings last season and experienced right shoulder soreness early during spring.

Pages fared well early into Spring Training games but has now gone hitless in five consecutive contests.

Vivas has put together a strong showing when given at-bats and has two doubles as part of five overall hits.

Dodgers Spring Training roster breakdown

The Dodgers Spring Training roster now is at 50 players (26 pitchers; 24 position players), though that includes Daniel Hudson, Gavin Lux and Alex Reyes, each of whom are injured. Lux is expected to miss the entire 2023 season after having surgery for a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee.

Meanwhile, Hudson is likely going to be placed on the 15-day injured list and not be included on the Dodgers Opening Day roster. Reyes won’t return from right shoulder surgery until multiple months into the season.

The number of Dodgers non-roster invitees to Spring Training remaining in camp are six pitchers and 10 position players.
