Dodgers Spring Training Highlights: Yasmani Grandal Hits First Home Run In Rout Of Giants

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued to swing the bats well in Sunday afternoon’s game against the San Francisco Giants, as their 9-3 win was their third in a row.

Yasiel Puig began the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning. Puig finished the day 2-for-3 and is now batting .400/.400/.993 this spring.

Yasmani Grandal started Cactus League play in a bit of a slump, going just 1-for-13 in his first six games. He broke out of that in a big way against the Giants, as he hit a two-run home run in the third inning off former teammate Tony Watson.

The home run came with Grandal batting right-handed, which is rare for him. Heading into this season, 77 of his 89 career home runs have come from the left side of the plate.

Grandal wasn’t the only Dodger batter to have a successful day at the plate. Chase Utley came up with his first hit of the spring in the fourth inning on an RBI double, bringing in Chris Taylor.

Several of the Dodgers’ Minor Leaguers also continued to swing the bat well as well as they tacked on three more runs in the seventh inning. Edwin Rios hit a two-run double that scored Donovan Solano and Matt Beaty, and on the very next pitch recently-signed catcher Rocky Gale knocked an RBI single to left-center field.

Solano then drove in two more runs in the top of the eighth inning, scoring Henry Ramos and Will Smith with a double of his own. Dodger bats have come alive since the calendar turned to March, with the team averaging 9.25 runs in four games.

They take the field Monday afternoon when they host the Cleveland Indians at Camelback Ranch with Rich Hill set to make his first Cactus League start.
