The Los Angeles Dodgers offense came alive in their road Cactus League matchup against the San Diego Padres on Monday, slugging 16 hits in a 14-2 victory in Peoria.

After falling into a 1-0 deficit, the Dodgers got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Cody Bellinger doubled off the left-field wall and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Taylor.

But it wasn’t until the sixth inning when the flood gates opened as the Dodgers scored four runs and then seven more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Taylor got the scoring started when he hit a two-run home run, his second of the spring. Taylor missed a few days last week with a minor shoulder injury but looks to be fully recovered.

Kiké Hernandez followed Taylor’s home run with a double down the left-field line, and Anthony Garcia and Austin Barnes both walked to load the bases. Edwin Rios finished off the rally with a two-run single, one of two hits on the day for him.

The Dodgers’ Minor Leaguers essentially singled the Padres to death in the seventh as they had four base hits and three walks in the inning. Terrance Gore finally capped off the rally with a bases-loaded double, driving home all three runners.

Newly-announced Dodgers fifth starter Alex Wood got the start on the mound and turned in a solid outing. He allowed three hits and a run in 3.1 innings striking out four without issuing a walk.

His defense didn’t help him out though as an error and a fly ball to center that AJ Pollock lost in the sun led to the sole run scoring.

Tony Gonsolin was also good in relief, pitching 2.2 shutout innings while giving up two hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
