With the Television Academy announcing nominations for the 72nd Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ exclusive network, SportsNet LA, along with Spectrum News 1 and home of the L.A. Lakers, Spectrum SportsNet, among those recognized.

Spectrum News 1 (12), SportsNet LA (5) and Spectrum SportsNet (4) were awarded a combined total of 21 Los Angeles Emmy Awards nominations. The Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards honor locally produced programs in the categories of Crime and Social Issues, Culture and History, Arts, Human Interest, Sports, Environment, and Live and Breaking News Coverage.

The awards will be presented virtually on Saturday, July 18, at 7 p.m. on Emmys.com.

SportsNet LA received their five nominations in the categories of Sports Series: programming (Post-Produced), programming (Live Broadcast), Sports Feature, Sports Tease and Short Promo – Sports.

More specifically, SportsNet LA was recognized for “Backstage: Dodgers,” “Access: SportsNet Dodgers,” “Legends of Dodger Baseball: Fernando Valenzuela,” “Dodgers-Yankees Tease,” and the short promo “Loyalty.”

SportsNet LA’s coverage is led by Alanna Rizzo (six-time Emmy Award winner) and Joe Davis from Dodger Stadium or on the road with the team, with John Hartung anchoring the studio. Jerry Hairston Jr., Nomar Garciaparra, Ned Colletti and Chase Utley are among the network’s rotating analysts.

Beyond unparalleled coverage of the Dodgers, SportsNet LA succeeds behind a team-first mentality and commitment to excellence. The welcoming environment made the transition from player to analyst all the more seamless for Utley.

“If you asked me 10 years ago if I thought I would work for a front office or be on TV, I would’ve said absolutely not,” he told DodgerBlue.com. “But, I’ve enjoyed my experience here in L.A. One, because we had a great team. Two, because I grew up a Dodgers fan.

“Putting that all together was amazing. The ability to stay in baseball now that I’m not playing but still have some kind of voice, I thought was important. Trying the TV thing out, which is still new to me, but so far I’m enjoying it.”
