Dodgers Sign Matt Gorski To Minor League Contract

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Matt Gorski to a Minor League contract, adding to their organizational depth with another player who has MLB experience.

Gorski was designated for assignment by the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 11 and released the following day. He spent a significant portion of the season on the injured list, which first began on May 25 due to an undisclosed hand injury.

Gorski made his MLB debut this season after the Pirates called him up on April 24, but was optioned just about one month later. The right-handed hitter took 42 plate appearances over 15 games, batting .195/.214/.390 with two home runs, two runs scored and four RBI.

Gorski’s first career home run came in his first at-bat. He had a strong Spring Training, hitting .360/.370/.920 with four home runs, 13 RBI and seven runs scored in 16 games.

The 27-year-old has seen time at first base, as well as all three outfield spots across his career.

A second-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, Gorski has hit .245/.311/.472 with 89 doubles, 13 triples, 91 home runs, 287 RBI and 303 runs scored in 468 Minor League games.

Gorski figures to report to Triple-A Oklahoma City. He could get a call-up with the Dodgers at some point in the season if they find themselves in need of a bench bat, but he is behind a few other options in the organization.

Gorski also has two option years remaining, so he could realistically stick around as depth for future seasons if the Dodgers see something they like.

Dodgers signed Nick Senzel

Earlier this season, the Dodgers also signed Nick Senel to a Minor League deal to bring in yet another player with MLB experience to fill out their system.

Senzel has hit .260./.348/.419. in 58 games with the Oklahoma City Comets, adding eight home runs, 48 RBI and 36 runs scored.
