The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Kole Calhoun and Mike Montgomery to Minor League contracts and assigned both veterans to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Calhoun went 1-for-4 in his OKC debut on Tuesday night, while Montgomery has reported but is yet to be added onto the roster. Both players provide depth with Major League experience and a veteran presence to the Dodgers’ Minor League system.

Calhoun has spent parts of 11 seasons at the Major League level, making his debut with the Los Angeles Angels in 2012 and spending the next eight years with them.

The left-handed hitter was a solid contributor and won a Gold Glove Award in 2015. Following his tenure with the Angels, Calhoun spent two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks and played for the Texas Rangers last year.

The 35-year-old has hit .243/.316/.418 with 173 home runs, 557 RBI and 618 runs scored over his career. Against the Dodgers, the Tempe, Arizona native always seemed to step up his game as well, batting .262/.344/.589 with 12 home runs, 21 RBI and 30 runs scored in 141 at-bats.

Montgomery has also had a solid career, spending parts of six seasons in the Majors with the Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals and Chicago Cubs.

A native of Mission Hills, California, Montgomery attended Hart High School in Santa Clarita before he was selected by the Royals in the first round of the 2008 MLB Draft.

Despite being drafted by the Royals, Montgomery did not pitch for them until the 2019-2020 seasons, instead making his MLB debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2015. However, Montgomery is most known for his time with the Cubs, where he spent four seasons and recorded the final out of the 2016 World Series.

Over his six seasons, Montgomery has pitched to a 3.84 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 541 innings with 415 strikeouts and 204 walks. He has experience as both a starter and a reliever, pitching in 183 career games with 70 starts.

Dodgers sign Ryan Brasier to Minor League contract

The Dodgers also signed veteran right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier to a Minor League contract as well.

Brasier was designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox in the middle of May and released upon clearing waivers. He went 1-0 with one save, a 7.29 ERA, 4.38 FIP and 1.57 WHIP in 20 games for Boston this year.

Brasier made his MLB debut with the Angels in 2013 but didn’t pitch again in the Majors until five years later. Brasier was a key contributor on the 2018 Red Sox World Series team that defeated the Dodgers in five games.
