The Los Angeles Dodgers signed outfielder Jason Martin and right-hander Beau Burrows, according to Baseball America’s Minor League transactions page. The terms of the deals were not disclosed, but it can be presumed both are Minor League pacts with invitations to Spring Training.

Martin, 26, was selected by the Houston Astros in the eighth round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He appeared in 58 games for the Texas Rangers this past season, batting .208/.248/.354 with three doubles, six home runs and 17 RBI over 154 plate appearances.

Martin saw time at all three outfield positions, but received most of his opportunities in left field. A left-handed bat with pop, the Corona, California native likely will try to earn a spot on the Dodgers roster as the fourth or fifth outfielder.

Over parts of three Major League seasons that includes a previous stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Martin has hit .206/.260/.328 with five doubles, six home runs and 19 RBI (85 games).

Burrows, 25, was selected by the Detroit Tigers with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut with the organization in 2020 and pitched to a 5.40 ERA across five appearances.

Burrows allowed four runs over 1.2 innings in his only appearance with the Tigers this year. He was selected off waivers by the Minnesota Twins in June and posted a 12.54 ERA across 9.1 innings and five games (one start).

Burrows spent most of the 2021 season with the Tigers and Twins’ Triple-A affiliates, with whom he posted a combined 5.10 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with 65 strikeouts against 28 walks in 65.1 innings pitched (22 appearances, 10 starts).

The Dodgers have a history of helping pitchers revive themselves and hope to find similar success with the former top pitching prospect.

Dodgers lose Davidson to Diamondbacks

While the signings of Martin and Burrows help bolster the Dodgers’ organizational depth, the club recently lost Matt Davidson to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The two-way player returned to his original team on a Minor League contract after hitting .294/.365/.629 in 84 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City this year.
