Shohei Ohtani Calls Marlins’ loanDepot Park One Of His ‘Favorite Stadiums’

The Los Angeles Dodgers began a three-game series with the Miami Marlins on Monday in what represented their first visit to loanDepot Park since Shohei Ohtani’s record-breaking performance last season.

The two-way star became the first player in MLB history to join the 50-50 club with a historic 6-for-6 performance on Sept. 19, 2024, that included two doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, four runs scored and two stolen bases.

Ohtani picked up where he left off by going 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and stolen base in the Dodgers’ 7-4 win. Ohtani’s blast had a 117.9 mph exit velocity, which marked the hardest-hit home run in baseball so far this season.

He also hit a home run on Tuesday and added a triple in the series finale.

Ohtani reflected on his success at the Marlins’ home ballpark and said it is one of his favorite stadiums to play, via SportsNet LA:

“Really good memories with the accomplishments last year and playing in the WBC. We had a really good game today as well. This is one of my favorite stadiums.”

Entering play Wednesday, Ohtani was hitting .375/.429/1.031 with three doubles, six home runs, 18 RBI and six stolen bases over seven career games at loanDepot Park.

The 30-year-old also had a memorable showing in the 2023 World Baseball Classic championship game at loanDepot Park, when he struck out then-Los Angeles Angels teammate Mike Trout to close out the win for Team Japan.

Shohei Ohtani adjusting to becoming father

Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, welcomed their first child last month, and after a slow start upon his return to the Dodgers lineup, the three-time MVP has been back to his usual self at the plate.

Some of those early struggles may have been due to Ohtani adjusting his schedule as a new father.

“A little change in the routine in terms of, for example, today I went to the hospital and came straight to the field,” Ohtani said through interpreter Will Ireton last week.

“Just being here at home is nice to be able to spend time. But on the road, it’s going to be a little bit of a challenge, since I won’t be here.”
