Dodgers Rumors: Scout Watched Marlins-Rays For Relief Pitchers On Trade Market

Prior to the Los Angeles Dodgers completing a trade for All-Star shortstop Manny Machado, the front office was mindful of a need to shore up their bullpen. In the days since acquiring Machado, general manager Farhan Zaidi has reiterated that sentiment.

Although the focus may lie on relief pitchers who are available in the final days leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, Zaidi said the Dodgers would be mindful of the potential acquisition of a starter as well.

Los Angeles thus far has been connected to Baltimore Orioles closer Zach Britton, and prior to that were said to have held early trade talks with the Miami Marlins on relievers Kyle Barraclough, Adam Conley And Drew Steckenrider.

The trio of Marlins pitchers may still be a source of interest for the Dodgers, as the organization reportedly had a scout watching their game against the Tampa Bay Rays, according to Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times:

The Dodgers had a scout watching the Miami Marlins play the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday; available relievers could include Kyle Barraclough, Adam Conley and Drew Steckenrider from Miami and Ryne Stanek, Jose Alvarado and Sergio Romo from Tampa Bay.

At present time, Dodgers relievers Pedro Baez, Tony Cingrani, Josh Fields, Yimi Garcia and Tom Koehler (60-day) are all on the disabled list. Baez might be near a return, while there’s some uncertainty surrounding the rest of the bunch.

Koehler, who was signed during the offseason under the notion he could emerge as a late-innings option, has yet to pitch for the Dodgers this season. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently admitted to the club not having an effective lefty against right-handed batters in the wake of Cingrani’s absence.

The Dodgers have already worked to address their bullpen through a minor that netted them Dylan Floro, and a waiver claim on Zac Rosscup.
