The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Miguel Rojas on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain and recalled Yonny Hernández from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to the series finale against the New York Mets.

Rojas heads to the IL for the first time this season, but since Spring Training he’s dealt with a right calf and foot cramp, left groin tightness and left hamstring cramp. The initial hamstring trouble was attributed to Rojas wrapping his left leg too tightly in response to having dealt with groin tightness.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently expressed confidence Rojas had made a fully recovery from his leg injuries.

Rojas missed five games while recovering from groin tightness, and started in six of eight after returning to the Dodgers lineup on April 9. The veteran shortstop was removed in the bottom of the fifth inning on Tuesday night.

Rojas’ landing on the IL comes as the Dodgers are attempting to nurse Chris Taylor back to health. Including Wednesday, he’s missed the past two games since being removed early in the series opener against the Mets due to left oblique discomfort.

Although the Dodgers have had somewhat of a revolving door at shortstop, Roberts downplayed concern.

“I just think it’s where we’re at. It’s not typical of a ballclub as far as sharing time at that position,” he said before Wednesday’s game. “It’s usually other positions, but I think to be able to manage Miguel’s workload, given the soft tissue stuff that he’s had since Spring Training, and managing C.T.’s workload, I think those two guys taking it down makes sense.”

Hernández joins the Dodgers one day after returning from the Minor League IL. Appearing in his first game since April 4, Hernández went 1-for-4 with a walk in Oklahoma City’s loss. Hernández has only played in four games for OKC so far this season.

The 24-year-old was briefly up with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season and also has MLB experience with the Texas Rangers in 2021.

The Dodgers acquired Hernández from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for cash considerations in a December trade.

Are Dodgers going to play Mookie Betts at shortstop?

Mookie Betts was projected to start at shortstop on Wednesday, but he remained on paternity leave for a second day. Roberts said the likelihood of Betts playing shortstop in the future will be dependent on the health of Rojas and Taylor.
